Pakistan is set to host a significant meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) second-highest decision-making body in Islamabad. This gathering will bring together member states to discuss critical issues, strengthening regional cooperation and fostering diplomatic relations.
Pakistan is set to host the 23rd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government (CHG) in Islamabad from October 15 to 16, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Spokesperson during a recent briefing. The CHG is the SCO’s second-highest decision-making body.
The meeting will focus on strengthening cooperation in areas such as the economy, trade, environmental issues, and cultural connections, while also reviewing the Organization’s progress. Leaders will make key organizational decisions to enhance collaboration among SCO members and approve the annual budget.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, as the current CHG Chair, will preside over the meeting. The Spokesperson emphasized that hosting the CHG reflects Pakistan’s strong commitment to the SCO Charter and the values embodied by the “Shanghai Spirit.”
Since joining the SCO in 2017, Pakistan has consistently worked to promote good neighborly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation among member states. As Chair of the CHG since October 26, 2023, Pakistan has organized numerous SCO conferences and meetings. In 2026-27, Pakistan will also assume the rotational Chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State (CHS) and the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM).
