ISLAMABAD, Oct 09 (APP): The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a special traffic plan for the upcoming Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit taking place in Islamabad on Wednesday.
According to the plan, more than 585 ITP officers will be deployed to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and to guide citizens to alternative routes, as stated by a public relations officer to APP.
During the summit, traffic will be closed along Millat Road to Kashmir Chowk and Dhokri Serena Hotel. Similarly, the route from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and Serena Malpur will also be blocked for the duration of the summit. Traffic on Aabpara and Srinagar Highway to Serena will be restricted, with alternative routes provided.
For citizens traveling from Murree and Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi, they can take Korang Road, turn left at Bani Gala, and proceed via Park Road to reach Rawal Dam Chowk and Faizabad. Those coming from Faizabad to Bhara Kahu and Murree can use Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road as an alternative route.
For travel from Srinagar Highway to Murree and Bhara Kahu, citizens should use Chand Tara Chowk, Pak China Centre, and the Sports Complex, then continue via Murree Road, Park Road, Bani Gala, and Korang Road.
Heavy traffic from Peshawar to Lahore should utilize the Taxila motorway and Tarnol Railway crossing to access the Fateh Jang motorway. Traffic from Lahore via GT Road to Islamabad and Rawalpindi will be redirected to Chak Beli Road to reach the Chakri motorway.
Traffic from Sectors F-5, G-5, G-6, and Margalla Road heading towards Rawalpindi will be diverted via 9th Avenue, and traffic from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will also be redirected to 9th Avenue.
Citizens traveling from Bhara Kahu to Rawalpindi should take Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. For those traveling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad, the route will be 9th Avenue via Saddar and Murree Road.
Traffic between Zero Point, Faisal Avenue, and Koral Chowk (using the Expressway) will be closed, with the service road serving as an alternative. From Colonel Sher Khan Road to Faizabad, citizens should use 9th Avenue from the Stadium Road signal.
From October 14 to 16, 2024, all types of heavy traffic will be restricted from entering Islamabad. Chief Traffic Officer Islamabad, Muhammad Sarfraz Virk, assured that traffic police officials would be stationed at closed roads to guide citizens and offer alternative routes.
Virk urged citizens to cooperate with the traffic police and utilize the alternative routes during the summit. Additionally, FM Radio 92.4 and other social media platforms will provide traffic updates throughout the event.
